The recent flooding in Queensland is a reminder that precautions need to be taken when investing in property.
Though it is impossible to predict what the weather will do, it is possible to take measures that will protect your investment.
When buying property in Brisbane, be aware of your surroundings. The tropical climate is truly something to be desired, but occasionally the area takes more than its share of rain.
As a result it is best to make note of the geography of the city and the flood warning systems provided to citizens. The Brisbane River ALERT system, posted on the Bureau of Meteorology government website, has field stations set up at key points throughout the Brisbane Valley, Brisbane and Ipswich metropolitan areas.
These stations report via VHF radio to base station computers located at SEQWater, Brisbane and Ipswich Council offices and the Bureau of Meteorology in Brisbane.
The field stations keep track of every millimetre of change in river height and report it back to the bureau. This system allows meteorologists to get fair warning of possible flood threats and report it to the public.
This method, combined with the Brisbane city mobile app that offers a free Floodwise Property Report and Flood Flag Map, should keep you well-informed and ready for the weather.
