New flood audit for Brisbane suburbs

New flood audit for Brisbane suburbs

A total of 1,100 sites in Brisbane will be audited by Queensland's Building Services Authority (BSA) at the beginning of next month, as rebuilding and recovery efforts continue in the wake of last year's devastating floods.

The audits, which were announced yesterday (January 18) by Queensland minister for building industry Simon Finn, will take place on February 6 and 7.

In addition to visiting flood-affected suburbs in Brisbane, the compliance teams will also evaluate around 700 sites in the Ipswich area.

Teams will evaluate the work being carried out by contractors on the site and ensure all qualification and experience standards as set out by the BSA are being met.

February's audit will mark the fourth compliance evaluation jointly carried out by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority and the BSA since many areas of the state were devastated by flood waters in January last year.

In November, the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) asserted that the state has made an "impressive comeback" since the natural disasters.

REIQ chair Pamela Bennett asserted that within six months of the flooding, there was a marked improvement in market activity - news which is certainly likely to buoy the spirits of anyone considering a Brisbane property investment.

The Queensland capital was given a further boost with the announcement that the Gold Coast will host the Commonwealth Games in 2018.
